Hello, my name is Bulka, Georgia’s younger sister! After three long years of Covid, the summer blog is back. Today is 6/18/22 and our current location is in London, England.
Today started at the arrival of our airplane. It was probably out of the worst flights ever due to the constant shaking, the uncomfortable seats, and the coughing of literally everyone but us. After the unfortunate flight, we were so glad to be in England. That joy was stopped short when everyone on the plane ran to get a lift. There was a huge line of people waiting to get on elevators. The people and the unpleasant ride added even more stress to the panic of having no taxi. Finally, we found the right line, and all was in order once again. Well almost all. All of us were terribly shaken from the airport drama and the whole ride was stressful, awkward, and quiet. We reached our hotel in about an hour and met with the receptionist. She was very nice and let us leave our bags in her office. Then we set off to explore London!
The easiest way to ease stress or worry is to eat a sweet from a European bakery, it's a fact. I and Georgia wanted to explore more but all of us had to cool down and have a break. The bakery food was delicious but due to our “heavy” accents, the baristas assumed we got water instead of coffee and left us a little disappointed. After that, we left to walk and see the sights to try and remember places from our last visit to London which was about nine years ago. London was so many bookstores; my favorite name of the bookstore was “Gay’s the Word” which is a bookstore that sells only LGBTQIA+ books. Besides books and bakeries, there are also a surprising number of cars in a wide variety from pink to neon green. After walking through a bazaar and some highly populated streets we reached a store that sold authentic Greek yogurt with interesting toppings. “Fresko,'' the name of the store, was so good! The sweet berry jam with the bitter and smooth yogurt and the granola was a perfect mix. The yogurt was not like the one in store and was way fresher than any yogurt I've ever had much like many of the other foods here. After that, we headed over a bridge to buy a train ticket for tomorrow. At that point in time, it was already 4:30 and we decided to walk along the river before eating.
The rumor that London is rainy and windy is not wrong. Every few hours it would rain, and I would be absolutely frozen in my spaghetti strap dress. Although I was very uncomfortable, it was fun to remember some cool places from nine years ago and see what's changed. At five we decided it was time to find food. Most places were either filled, pubs, or closed but we managed to find a fancy restaurant called “Hawksmoor''. It mostly sold seafood and steak Both of which I chose to avoid. I got asparagus and mac and cheese. The food was impeccable, again proving how much fresher ingredients are in Europe. When we left the streets were mainly empty and it was colder than before. We hurried home
in order to arrive before it got dark. Stoplights in England are a tad confusing and every now and then we almost got hit by a car but nerveless we made it back. Instead of just going to sleep we decided to buy dessert in a nearby Asian market. We came home, settled down, and prepared for whatever food tomorrow would bring.
